Learn how to use the Tapering feature on your Sapphire 930. Once you master the technique you will be able to create many vibrant and exciting projects.
The decorative tapering stitches on the Sapphire 930 can be used to taper the stitch to form corners and points. Only the stitches highlighted on the lid in blue can be tapered.
Use the Sewing Advisor to select your type of fabric. This will automatically set the correct tension, recommend the best foot to be used (usually the “B” foot). The size and type of needle. As well as using stabiliser underneath to support the stitching.
Select stitch 1:40. This stitch has an already determined point taper. Start to sew and it will start with a fine point and then expand out to the stitch width that has been set. When you want to end the taper, press the STOP button on the face of the machine and the end taper will be activated.
Now select stitch 1:41. This stitch creates a mitred point. Start to sew and it will start with a fine point and then expand out to the stitch width that has been set. When you want to end the taper, press the STOP button on the face of the machine and the end taper will be activated.
Let’s play with some of the other taper options. Select stitch 3:30.
Press the CLR button to open the Tapering View. Use the left and right arrow buttons to select the beginning and/or end tapering. Press OK to activate (this will put “X” in the box). Simply press OK to remove the “X”.
Press the CLR button again to close the Tapering View screen. Icons will now appear on the stitch screen to show the selections you have set.
Place the fabric and stabiliser under the presser foot.
Start sewing. If tapering is activated at both the beginning and at the end, the machine will sew the tapered point and then continue with the selected stitch to the set stitch width. When the stitch reaches the desired length, press the Reverse button on the face of the machine. The machine will complete the rest of the selected including the end taper option. When the tapering is complete the machine will stop automatically.
TIP: To repeat a tapering stitch at the length you have just created press the STOP button on the face of the machine. It will now remember that length so you will be able to sew it out repeatedly. No need to press the Reverse button again. Great for squares.
NOTE: In Programming mode, you can add more than one stitch that can be tapered. You do not need to press the Reverse button to activate the end taper. The end taper will automatically start when it reaches the last stitch in the program.
