An invisible zipper is always inserted before sewing the garment seam. The Invisible Zipper Foot features two grooves underneath that hold the zipper coils in place, allowing you to stitch close to the coils for a professional finish.
Choose a zipper that is at least 3cm (1¼") longer than the zipper opening.
How to use:
- Mark the zipper opening length on both the seam allowance and the zipper. The excess zipper length should extend beyond the bottom of the opening. Snap on the Invisible Zipper Foot, select a centre-needle straight stitch and set the stitch length to 2.5–3.0.
- Open the zipper completely.
- Place the right side of the zipper onto the fabric with right sides together. Position the zipper coil along the seam line, with the top stop approximately 2cm (¾") below the raw edge of the fabric.
- Gently press the zipper coils open with your fingers. Lower the presser foot so the right groove fits over the zipper coil. Adjust the needle position to align with the guide on the front of the foot. Backstitch, sew to the marked point, then backstitch to secure.
- Repeat for the left side of the zipper, ensuring the left groove fits over the zipper coil and the needle is correctly aligned with the guide before sewing.
- Close the zipper. Place the garment right sides together and attach the regular Zipper Foot E to the left of the needle. Move the needle to the right and sew the remaining seam from the lower edge up to the zipper, overlapping the previous stitching. If the zipper is too long, hand-stitch across the zipper teeth about 3cm (1¼") below the finished opening, then trim away the excess zipper.
